Research
Research Objectives
1. Contribute to the growth of knowledge within the research topics of the project
The ALIFAR development program will be structured around 5 innovative scientific topics concerning the interaction between the molecular sciences - from synthesis, to analytical characterization, to formulation aspects - and complex areas of health. These themes are declined in order to intercept and propose solutions to the critical aspects.
TOPIC 1 | Development of -omics approaches (metabolomics, proteomics, genomics) for the characterization of biomarkers, surrogate end-points and new targets for precision diagnostics and treatments; the same approaches, through a transdisciplinary approach, can be used for the identification of biologically active compounds in complex matrices which form the basis for the formulation of new nutraceuticals, cosmetics, food supplements, providing the scientific basis for obtaining proof-of-concepts of their effectiveness.
TOPIC 2 |
Application of computational techniques, including the integration of data and complex predictive models, to the discovery and development of new drugs, new medicinal products and new compounds of natural origin having biofunctional activity.
TOPIC 3 |
Characterization and enhancement of complex natural matrices for the generation of components with high pharmaceutical, nutritional and cosmetic value. Design of advanced formulations able to maximize the effectiveness and reduce the environmental impact of the production, use and disposal of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
TOPIC 4 |
Use of macro-components (proteins, lipids, complex carbohydrates) and other bioactive compounds from alternative biomasses, including by-products and waste from the agri-food sector, for the production of new foods and feeds with functional and health-promoting properties.
TOPIC 5 |
Scientific contribution to the definition, together with the reference stakeholders, of an appropriate regulatory and safety background for the innovative tools for health and well-being. |
2. Increase the ability to attract European, national and regional funding, also for the purpose of medium-long term sustainability, by promoting high-level research activities.
